Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has appointed Dr. Udo Samuel Atang as his Senior Special Assistant on Administration. The announcement was made in a statement signed by Anthony Ogunleye, Director of Press in the Minister’s office, highlighting Atang’s extensive experience in public service and governance.
Prior to this appointment, Dr. Atang served as the Head of Service of the FCT Administration. Born on March 27, 1964, in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa-Ibom State, he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from the University of Calabar in 1987. He began his career in the now-defunct Ministry of the Federal Capital Territory in 1989 and has held various senior administrative roles over his 35 years in the FCT Administration, including being the first Head of Service of the FCTA in March 2024.
Dr. Atang’s tenure as Head of Service was extended for six months by President Bola Tinubu after he reached the retirement age of 60 in March 2024. The statement noted, “Dr. Atang’s expertise has been instrumental in driving various reforms and initiatives aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of government operations.”
In his new role, Dr. Atang, a fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria, will collaborate closely with the FCT Minister to oversee key administrative functions, ensure seamless coordination of activities, and provide strategic advisory support. His appointment is effective immediately.
