Arsenal legend Paul Merson has stated that Arsenal has a chance to compete for the Premier League title this season if they can maintain the fitness of their key players.
Merson believes Chelsea is unlikely to challenge for the title but could finish in the top four. Arsenal and Chelsea currently occupy second and third positions in the Premier League table, both seven points behind leaders Liverpool, who dropped points in a 3-3 draw at Newcastle United on Wednesday.
Discussing Arsenal’s chances, Merson said on Sky Sports News, “If they can field their best team like they did against West Ham, they’ve got a chance to win the title. With Odegaard back, they’re a completely different team.”
On Chelsea, Merson added, “They’ve got to learn how to walk before they sprint. If Chelsea finishes in the top four and wins a trophy, like the Europa Conference League, that would be a great season. The goal at the start of the season was to make the top four.”
