Former Vice President and opposition leader, Atiku Abubakar, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its handling of the country’s fuel subsidy, blaming it for Nigeria’s current economic crisis. In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Atiku condemned the government’s “disorganised and insincere” approach, which he says has fueled rising inflation and worsened living conditions for Nigerians.
Atiku highlighted the severe impact of these policies, stating, “There will be no relief from the escalating inflation rate, which is suffocating Nigerians’ material well-being.”
In response to the ongoing fuel crisis, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) urged the government to focus on developing Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a cheaper, cleaner alternative to petrol. NANS called for nationwide CNG refilling stations to provide economic relief and reduce the country’s reliance on petrol.
