Nollywood actor Adedimeji Lateef has reassured fans that the second installment of his movie, Lisabi: A Legend Is Born, will premiere on Netflix as planned in January 2025.
This comes after reports suggested that Netflix might be pulling out of Nigeria. The speculation began when celebrated Nollywood director Kunle Afolayan disclosed during the 2024 Zuma Film Festival that Netflix had ceased funding projects for Nigerian directors. He added that his series, Anikulapo: The Rise of the Spectre, was unaffected due to the completion of its approved seasons.
Following Afolayan’s remarks, Netflix clarified that they were not exiting Nigeria but stopped short of addressing claims about funding cuts. The platform reiterated its commitment to supporting Nigerian stories, though the format of this support remains unclear.
Amid the uncertainty, fans expressed concerns about the fate of anticipated projects like Lisabi. Addressing these worries, Adedimeji Lateef took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to assure his audience.
He wrote:
“The internet got a not-so-good news about our principal partners, Netflix, yesterday, and a lot of people have expressed concerns about Lisabi. We’re pleased to announce that our relationship with the streaming platform is intact, and Lisabi Part 2 will hit Netflix in January as promised. Anticipate magic! Trailer and poster dropping soon.”
The update has since calmed fans, with many eagerly awaiting the sequel’s release.
