A Jos Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a 19-year-old trader to nine months in prison after he pleaded guilty to robbing an elderly woman in her home. Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos delivered the verdict on Friday, adding that the convict could opt to pay a N20,000 fine or serve a six-month sentence. Additionally, the convict was ordered to pay N30,000 in damages to the victim or face an extra three months in prison.
The incident occurred on August 23, when the convict and accomplices, still at large, robbed the complainant’s mother, stealing her phone and bag containing the Holy Quran, while threatening her with a knife. The police later apprehended the convict. The offence violated the Plateau State Penal Code Law.
