FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has expressed no regrets about his decision to work against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2023 presidential election. In an interview on Channels Television’s *Politics Today*, Wike clarified that his actions were rooted in his commitment to justice and fairness.
“I supported equity, fairness, and justice during the presidential election. My allegiance to my party was evident in the success we achieved in the gubernatorial and National Assembly elections,” Wike stated. He emphasized, “I have no apologies because I don’t believe in injustice. Today, people say ‘Discipline Wike, he did anti-party.’ I did not do anti-party.”
Wike’s controversial stance in 2023 came after he joined forces with four other PDP governors—Samuel Ortom (Benue), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu)—to oppose Atiku Abubakar’s presidential candidacy. These aggrieved governors demanded the resignation of Senator Iyorchia Ayu as the PDP national chairman as a precondition for supporting Atiku.
As discussions continue regarding party dynamics and leadership, Wike’s firm stance highlights the ongoing rifts within the PDP and the impact of leadership decisions on electoral outcomes.
