“We Need You to Start Building Shops Along with Houses,” Says Actor Lege Miami to Landlords

-

Nollywood actor Adams Kehinde, popularly known as Lege Miami, has stirred controversy with his recent remarks aimed at landlords, urging them to construct shops and warehouses alongside residential houses.

In a video shared on his Instagram page, Lege admonished men against taking their wives abroad, suggesting that once married, men should instead open supermarkets for their wives and provide them with cars of their choice if financially capable. He emphasized, “Landlords in the neighborhood, we need you to start building shops along with the houses you are building. We are no longer taking our women overseas. Once they get married, they aren’t going abroad again. We would open a big supermarket for you; any car you want, your husband will buy it for you. Those of you who are saving to take your wife overseas will end up crying. So landlords, help us to build shops.”

His comments sparked backlash, with many viewers deeming his statements misogynistic. One user, Ashake Coddles, criticized the demeaning tone, saying, “It is how we laugh at misogynistic comments like this one, but it’s saddening to wonder how these guys were raised to speak vile against women so easily.” Other comments reflected similar sentiments, with users expressing frustration over his views on women’s roles and relationships.

In previous statements, Lege had made headlines for advising women on the importance of early marriage and commenting on the changing dynamics of relationships. In a TVC Your View interview, he shared details about his own relationship status, mentioning he has two children with a woman he found incompatible and is currently dating someone but does not consider himself committed.

Two years ago, Lege was involved in a public dispute on Instagram Live with a foreigner over a woman, after revealing information that led to tension between the man and his girlfriend.

Lege’s comments have sparked a larger conversation about gender roles and expectations in relationships, highlighting the ongoing debates around misogyny and women’s rights in society.
