Netizens have rallied to the defense of Afrobeat singer Davido after a Twitter user criticized him for not attending the candlelight procession for his rival Wizkid’s mother.
On Tuesday, Davido and his family organized a low-key candlelight procession in honor of his late mother. A Twitter user named Praise questioned why Davido didn’t attend Wizkid’s watch night.
In response, some netizens defended Davido, highlighting how Wizkid might not have attended a similar event if the roles were reversed. They argued that expecting Davido to attend was unreasonable and that personal priorities come first.
Many users emphasized that it’s not compulsory to attend such events, and they advised people to exercise restraint on social media.
Davido had previously offered his condolences to Wizkid when news of his mother’s passing emerged, promising to keep him in his prayers. He had expressed admiration for Wizkid’s mother before her death, calling her an amazing woman.
Mrs. Jane Dolapo Balogun, Wizkid’s mother, passed away in August. Her funeral arrangements included a wake-keep night, which took place recently.
Wizkid has maintained a lower profile on social media and in the limelight since her passing.
