Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has submitted a supplementary budget proposal of N99,221,503,569.90 to the State House of Assembly. The budget is intended to fund the new minimum wage and execute key projects within the state.
The Governor’s request was presented on Tuesday during a plenary session, where the Speaker, Ismail Falgore, read the letter to the assembly members. Falgore explained that the approval of this budget would allow for the swift execution of priority projects aimed at enhancing the welfare of Kano’s citizens.
According to the breakdown of the supplementary budget, N33,761,174,555.64 is allocated for personnel costs, N34,492,888,103.44 for overhead costs, and N30,969,440,940.80 for capital expenditure.
The State Commissioner for Planning and Budget, Musa Shanono, speaking to journalists after the session, noted that the initial 2024 state budget was N437,338,312,787. With the inclusion of the supplementary budget, the total budget for 2024 would rise to N536,559,816,356.90.
Shanono emphasized the government’s commitment to infrastructural and human capital development, as well as improvements in the health and education sectors. He also stressed that the supplementary budget would ensure the payment of the new minimum wage among other critical needs.
