Senator Ken Eze, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Information and National Orientation, has emphasized that the removal of the petroleum subsidy by President Bola Tinubu has made more funds available for both federal and state governments to operate effectively. Speaking at his hometown, Ohaigbo Amagu in Ezza South Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, during his one-year constituency briefing, Senator Eze highlighted the necessity of the subsidy removal despite its initial challenges.
The Senator, who represents Ebonyi Central Senatorial Zone, acknowledged that while the subsidy removal has been tough on citizens, its long-term benefits will soon be evident. He stated, “The removal was an unavoidable measure to prevent the government from running out of resources. States, in particular, would have struggled to find funds to function if the subsidy had not been removed.”
Eze also pointed out that Nigeria’s current economic difficulties did not start under President Tinubu’s administration but had been building up for years. He called on Nigerians to be patient, assuring them that the present government’s policies would eventually lead to better outcomes.
During the event, Senator Eze distributed over 1,000 bags of fertilizer to farmers in his constituency, with allocations made to various local government areas. He also made a financial provision of N10 million to assist in transporting the fertilizer to different wards.
In addition to his agricultural support, Senator Eze highlighted his legislative achievements, including the passage of five significant bills and the facilitation of employment for over fifty Ebonyi citizens in the federal civil service.
The event also saw commendations from local leaders, including Chief Moses Ogbdo-Ali Nome, Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in the state, who praised the Senator for his dedication to his constituents during challenging times.
Beneficiaries like Mrs. Jane Igboke expressed gratitude for the support, pledging to use the resources provided to improve their farming activities.
