The Federal Government has introduced a free Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) bus service in Abuja, aiming to alleviate transportation costs for residents. The service, launched on December 2, 2024, will operate for 40 days, ending on January 6, 2025.
The buses, which cover routes from suburbs like Mararaba to Eagle Square and Berger, are part of the government’s Presidential CNG Initiative. Last week, 15 CNG-powered buses were handed over to transport unions, including the National Road Transport Workers Union and the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners, to enhance urban mobility.
Commuters have welcomed the initiative, with passengers like Fatima and Blessing expressing appreciation. They hope for continued support and reductions in transportation costs after the free ride period.
The program underscores the government’s efforts to promote cleaner energy and provide economic relief to citizens.
