Liverpool manager, Arne Slot, has openly admitted that he tried to influence referees during matches this season. Despite his efforts, the Dutch manager acknowledged that his attempts to sway official decisions have been unsuccessful.
Slot explained his approach, stating that he sought to create a “siege mentality” at Anfield, hoping that it would lead to more favorable calls from referees. However, his tactics did not result in any tangible changes during games.
“You try to influence as much as you can,” Slot said. He admitted to making the mistake of believing that creating an atmosphere where the team feels under siege could prompt referees to make decisions in their favor, particularly during tight moments.
Despite these efforts, Slot revealed that in matches against Chelsea and Fulham, the referees maintained consistent decisions throughout the 90 minutes without any significant change. He conceded that his strategy had not yielded the expected results but noted that it was an instinctive reaction at times.
“I know that it doesn’t work, but sometimes you think: ‘Can I influence that a bit?’ But it didn’t help at all,” Slot concluded.
