The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, has struck out a suit filed by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The suit sought to prohibit the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from arresting or prosecuting him after his tenure.
The matter was struck out following a motion for discontinuance filed by the governor’s counsel, Gbenga Femi Akande. While the case was initially scheduled for mention on November 26, it had already been removed from the court’s list on October 31 after being withdrawn.
Sanwo-Olu had initiated the suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/773/2024, on June 6, raising concerns over alleged threats of arrest, detention, and prosecution by the EFCC. He sought multiple reliefs, including an order to restrain the EFCC from interfering with his rights after leaving office.
The EFCC, in its response, dismissed the claims as speculative and unfounded, stating that it had neither threatened nor taken any steps to infringe upon the governor’s rights. The anti-graft agency urged the court not to grant the reliefs sought.
With the withdrawal of the suit, the matter is now considered closed.
