Justice Maryann Anenih of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, Abuja, has postponed the arraignment of former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello to November 27, 2024. Bello is facing 16 fresh charges from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), including criminal breach of trust and conspiracy to defraud N110.4 billion.
Details of the Case:
– Bello, along with Shuabu Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, is accused of engaging in fraudulent practices involving the misappropriation of public funds
– The court issued a 30-day public summons on October 3 after the EFCC reported difficulties in serving Bello with the charges filed on September 24. Copies of the summons were also pasted at his last known address and on the court premises.
– EFCC counsel Jamiu Agoro sought an extension to ensure Bello’s presence in court and requested permission to paste a hearing notice at his residence.
Court’s Ruling:
Justice Anenih approved the adjournment and granted the EFCC’s application to notify Bello via his residence at No. 9, Benghazi Street, Wuse Zone 4. The court also allowed Bello’s co-defendants to remain on administrative bail.
The arraignment is now set for November 27, with all parties expected to appear before the court for further proceedings.
