A former Borno State Commissioner, Hon. Mohammed Kareto, has publicly challenged the Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Magashi (rtd), to visit Borno State to assess the security situation firsthand. Kareto’s challenge comes in response to recent statements by the minister suggesting that the Boko Haram insurgency has been significantly degraded. Kareto argues that such claims are misleading and do not reflect the current realities faced by residents of Borno. He emphasizes that many communities continue to experience attacks and that the insurgent group remains active in several areas. Kareto urges the federal government to intensify efforts to address the ongoing security challenges in the region.
