Bauchi State recorded 200 cases of dog bites in 2024, with 23 confirmed rabies cases, according to Governor Bala Mohammed. He made the disclosure during the launch of the 2025 Annual Livestock Vaccination Campaign in Itas-Gadau Local Government Area.
The governor announced that the state government has purchased 10,000 doses of anti-rabies vaccines to combat the disease. The vaccines have been distributed to veterinary clinics across the state’s 20 local government areas. Mohammed urged dog owners to vaccinate their pets free of charge at local veterinary hospitals.
The state has allocated N8.9 million for the 2025 livestock vaccination campaign, targeting 1 million cattle, 500 sheep, goats, and 500 poultry. Additionally, N80.9 million has been budgeted for the bi-annual livestock vaccination, with N40 million released for the campaign’s first phase.
