The Theatre Commander of Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General Oluyinka Olalekan Soyele, has called for greater collaboration from local communities in the ongoing fight against terrorism and banditry in the North West.
Soyele made the appeal during a courtesy visit by the Nigerian Legion, Zamfara State chapter, led by Aminu Ladan Mada, on Wednesday in Gusau, the state capital.
In a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre, Soyele discussed the restructuring of previous operations, such as Operation Hadarin Daji and Whirl Punch, into the new Operation Fansan Yamma. He explained that the restructuring was aimed at improving coordination and strengthening the response to security challenges in the North West and Niger State.
Soyele highlighted the operation’s progress, particularly in reducing banditry along the Gusau-Funtua highway, and reassured the public that troops will remain vigilant in achieving the operation’s objectives. He emphasized the crucial role of local collaboration and intelligence in securing the region.
During the visit, Aminu Ladan Mada offered condolences to Soyele on behalf of the Nigerian Legion for the recent passing of former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja. Mada praised Soyele’s leadership and pledged the Legion’s support for Operation Fansan Yamma, stressing the importance of synergy between security forces and local communities to ensure a safe environment.
He also commended the Defense Headquarters for restructuring security operations in the region, recognizing it as a vital step toward optimizing resources and enhancing collaboration to tackle insecurity effectively.
