Manchester City’s Phil Foden has been named the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Player of the Year, while Chelsea’s Cole Palmer secured the Young Player of the Year award. This marks the first time since the 2009-10 season that both prestigious awards have been won by English players.
Foden, who scored 19 goals in 35 Premier League appearances during the 2023-24 season, played a pivotal role in Manchester City’s historic fourth consecutive league title. At 23 years old, he became the youngest player to have won six league titles. Foden edged out his City teammates Erling Haaland and Rodri, along with Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard, and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, to claim the award.
Meanwhile, Palmer, who enjoyed a breakthrough season with Chelsea, netted 22 goals in 34 league appearances. His impressive performances earned him a place in the England squad for Euro 2024, where he scored in the final, although England lost 2-1 to Spain. The 22-year-old surpassed Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, former Crystal Palace player Michael Olise, and Brighton’s Joao Pedro to win the Young Player of the Year award.
