Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has emphasized that persons with disabilities (PWDs) possess the potential to excel in various fields despite the challenges they encounter daily.
Adeleke made this statement during the World Disabilities Day event held at Osogbo Grammar School on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. The day, recognized annually by the United Nations, is dedicated to promoting the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities worldwide.
Represented by his Special Adviser on Special Needs, Kamil Aransi, the governor praised the resilience, creativity, and achievements of PWDs in the state. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities through policy reforms, advocacy, and targeted empowerment programs.
Speaking on the theme “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future,” Adeleke stressed the importance of integrating PWDs into all areas of human endeavor.
He noted that PWDs are not defined by their limitations but by their determination and capabilities.
“Persons with disabilities are not defined by their challenges but by their resilience, creativity, and potential. Across Osun State and beyond, we see PWDs excelling in arts, sports, education, governance, and entrepreneurship, proving that disability is not inability.”
The governor also called for sustained efforts to promote inclusivity and support for PWDs, ensuring they can contribute meaningfully to society.
Adeleke reaffirmed that his administration remains dedicated to creating an enabling environment for PWDs, fostering opportunities that will allow them to thrive.
The event served as a platform to celebrate the achievements of persons with disabilities in Osun State and to advocate for their greater inclusion in building a sustainable future.
