A tragic road accident in Yobe State on Tuesday night claimed the lives of 12 passengers along the Baimari-Geidam road near Chelluri village.
The crash, which occurred around 10:00 pm, involved a stationary Howo truck with registration number MAG831ZR, owned by DAN Nene Construction Company, and a Sharon mini-bus with registration number BAU124YF. According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander in Yobe, Corps Commander Livinus Yilzoom, the mini-bus rammed into the stationary truck and caught fire, burning all 12 occupants beyond recognition.
Preliminary investigations attribute the accident to road obstruction by the truck and excessive speed and overloading by the mini-bus driver.
Corps Commander Yilzoom urged motorists to avoid night travel, particularly during the hazy Harmattan season, as poor visibility increases the risk of accidents.
The FRSC, led by Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, extended condolences to the victims’ families and emphasized the critical importance of road safety and responsible driving practices.
This incident follows a tragic fire earlier in the state, highlighting the urgent need for heightened safety awareness.
