The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to address the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State and other pressing matters within the party. BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara voiced these concerns during a recent meeting in Abuja, highlighting the need to resolve complaints arising from recent party congresses in various states.
Wabara urged the National Working Committee (NWC) to ensure the NEC meeting is held as scheduled on October 24. He emphasized the importance of unity within the party, stating that its future depends on collective efforts to overcome internal conflicts. “A house divided against itself cannot stand,” he noted, advocating for diplomacy and patience in addressing disputes.
The BoT also discussed recent meetings with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, and other party leaders aimed at fostering unity and resolving ongoing issues. Wabara expressed the need for open discussions to strategize for future elections and strengthen the PDP’s internal structures.
In a communique issued after the meeting, the BoT condemned the worsening economic conditions in Nigeria, calling on the federal government to revise its policies and reduce fuel prices. They criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration for its “anti-people” policies, demanding immediate investments in food production and the manufacturing sector to alleviate suffering among Nigerians.
The BoT also condemned alleged electoral manipulation in the recent Edo State governorship election, asserting that the PDP candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, won the vote based on polling unit results. They pledged to take all legitimate steps to recover the mandate from the election.
Additionally, the BoT alerted the public to potential electoral fraud in the upcoming Ondo State governorship election, urging vigilance against manipulation. They expressed concern over the state of affairs in Rivers State and called for urgent action from the NWC to convene a meeting with key stakeholders to find lasting solutions.
In conclusion, the BoT reiterated the necessity of unity and commitment among PDP members, asserting that the party remains the beacon of hope for millions of Nigerians and must stay true to its foundational principles.
