The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced its intention to unseat the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming 2027 governorship election. Acting APC chairman Alhaji Olayide Abas expressed this commitment on Wednesday during a meeting in Ibadan.
Abas highlighted the party’s determination to reclaim the Agodi Government House, which the APC lost to Governor Seyi Makinde of the PDP in both the 2019 and 2023 elections. Addressing APC leaders from six local government areas in the Ibadan Outer City Zone, Abas reassured members of the party’s renewed unity and readiness for the challenges ahead.
“With the support of prominent members and a return to internal harmony, the APC is well-prepared to win back the governorship seat,” Abas stated. He also emphasized that many former APC members who left before the last election have returned, with some PDP members also joining the APC. Abas revealed that recent events in Ibadan North saw hundreds of former PDP members defect to the APC, a trend he expects to continue.
Abas reiterated the APC’s commitment to strengthening its position across the state, confident in the party’s potential to be “the party to beat in Oyo anytime.”
