The President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Nze Ozichukwu Fidelis Chukwu, has assured a transparent and credible election for the Rivers State Executive Committee of the socio-cultural organization on January 10, 2025.
Chukwu gave this assurance while addressing criticisms from Jackson Omenazu, who had questioned the proceedings of the Imeobi General Assembly held on December 14, 2024.
Omenazu alleged that the assembly failed to meet constitutional quorum requirements, asserting that Dr. Kingsley Dozie from Abia State should have acted as President-General following constitutional guidelines. He also raised concerns about perceived irregularities and unfulfilled nominations.
Ohanaeze spokesperson, Alex Ogbonnia, dismissed Omenazu’s claims as “misguided” and reaffirmed that the assembly adhered to constitutional protocols. According to Ogbonnia:
- The Imeobi General Assembly approved the NEC’s resolution for Rivers State to produce the next President-General.
- The meeting legitimized Nze Ozichukwu Fidelis Chukwu’s presidency and authorized preparations for the upcoming election.
- The NEC relied on a doctrine of necessity after the demise of former President-General Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu in July 2024, allowing the Secretary-General to oversee administrative duties.
Ogbonnia further emphasized that Omenazu’s approach lacked proper documentation and did not follow established procedures for leadership nominations.
Chukwu reiterated his commitment to upholding the integrity of the upcoming election and urged unity among members of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, noting the importance of a transparent process in advancing the organization’s mission.
The Rivers State Executive election is expected to mark a significant milestone in Ohanaeze’s leadership transition.
