Obasanjo Calls for Anti-Corruption Fight to Start from Leadership

-

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has emphasized that eradicating corruption in Nigeria must begin at the leadership level and be sustained consistently to yield results.

Speaking during a Zoom interactive session tagged *”Boiling Point Arena”* on Sunday, Obasanjo highlighted the pervasive nature of corruption and accused those in power of being at fault.

“Corruption is very hydra-headed and eats deep. It’s not a one-day affair, not even a one or two-regime affair. It has to be consistent, continual, and a daily effort,” he stated.

Using the metaphor of a “babariga” (traditional robe), Obasanjo illustrated how corruption spreads when not tackled comprehensively, stressing the importance of leadership accountability in setting the tone for societal change.

The session, broadcast on private radio stations in Abeokuta, Ogun State, centered on Obasanjo’s political legacy and his critique of contemporary Nigeria.

He called for an unwavering and unified approach to combating corruption, urging leaders to demonstrate integrity and commitment to inspire trust and progress.
