The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Abia State has officially merged with the Labour Party (LP). This significant shift follows the defection of NNPP’s leadership and stakeholders to the ruling Labour Party in the state.
During a ceremony to welcome the defectors, Labour Party leader and Abia Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, emphasized that all members are treated equally within the party. He reassured the new members that they would receive the same rights and privileges as long-standing party members.
Governor Otti also announced the start of a N1.5 billion monthly payment plan to address almost N18 billion in salary arrears owed by previous administrations. He stressed that his administration is focused on the welfare of Abians rather than the interests of politicians.
Labour Party officials praised Otti’s leadership, noting that his governance has positively impacted the state and enhanced its reputation. The former NNPP leaders expressed their confidence in joining forces with Otti to advance Abia State.
