Nigerian-Italian forward Jeff Ekhator, 17, faces intense competition for a starting role at Genoa following the arrival of veteran striker Mario Balotelli. The teenage talent has made an impact this season with nine Serie A appearances and one goal, becoming the second-youngest player in Europe’s top five leagues to score and assist, behind Yamine Lamal.
Ekhator, who debuted professionally in Genoa’s Coppa Italia win against Reggiana, was substituted for Balotelli in Genoa’s recent game against Parma, underscoring the rivalry. Raised in Genoa, Ekhator developed through the club’s youth academy, impressing in under-18 and under-19 squads before his first-team promotion under manager Alberto Gilardino.
Uncapped at any level, Ekhator remains eligible to play internationally for either Italy or Nigeria.
