Adebisi Oderinde, a tax expert and CEO of AOC-Adebisi Oderinde & Co, has urged President Bola Tinubu to pause the proposed tax reforms in Nigeria. During the inauguration of his company’s head office in Ogun State, Oderinde emphasized that current economic challenges make it an unsuitable time to introduce tax reforms, which could hinder the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Oderinde expressed concern that increasing the tax burden, particularly adjustments to VAT and PAYE, would negatively impact both Lagos State and many others, given the country’s low purchasing power. He argued that instead of pushing forward with tax changes, the government should consider the existing economic conditions and allow businesses to stabilize.
Attendees at the event included several dignitaries, such as the Alake of Egbaland, Michael Gbadebo, and the former Managing Director of Skye Bank Plc, Timothy Oguntayo, who commended Oderinde’s dedication and integrity.
