The 2023 Labour Party candidates in Kaduna State have rallied behind Senator Nenadi Usman, the acting National Chairperson of the Labour Party, praising her leadership for saving the party from the verge of collapse. The group called on stakeholders to support Usman in strengthening the party as a formidable opposition.
In a statement released on Thursday, Dr. Yusuf Abdullahi, the group’s spokesperson, emphasized that Usman’s emergence as the National Caretaker Committee Chairperson was critical in preventing the party from being deregistered by Nigeria’s electoral bodies, which would have barred the Labour Party from future elections.
“If not for her leadership, the Labour Party would have faced deregistration and lost its electoral relevance,” Abdullahi stated. He also dismissed calls from a splinter group for Usman’s removal, labeling them as out of touch with reality.
Abdullahi credited Usman with the Labour Party’s successes in the 2023 general elections, particularly in Kaduna State. He also highlighted her strong political background, noting her rise from Commissioner to Senator, and later, as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He expressed confidence that Usman’s leadership would guide the party towards greater achievements.
Abdullahi also thanked key party figures, including the 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi and Abia State Governor Alex Otti, for their roles in ensuring Usman’s appointment. He further commended Kaduna State’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate, Hon. Jonathan Asake, for his efforts in unifying the party.
He urged party members to reject the faction led by Tafoki Lawal, affirming that both INEC and SIECOM recognize Hon. Yusuf Danbaki as the legitimate caretaker committee chairman. “We fully support Sen. Nenadi Usman as the national leader of our party and Hon. Yusuf Danbaki as our State Party Chairman,” Abdullahi concluded.
