Mercy Eke, the first runner-up of Big Brother Naija All Stars and winner of Pepper Dem, has sparked a wave of reactions with her response to a message from Guinness World Records regarding Hilda Baci.
Hilda Baci, the renowned Nigerian chef, made headlines when she attempted and won the Guinness World Record for the longest time spent cooking while standing in May. However, she was dethroned less than a year later.
In response to her dethronement, Guinness World Records sent a tweet questioning whether she would ever attempt to break the record again: “Will we see you reattempt one day?”
Mercy Eke replied on Hilda Baci’s behalf, stating that the chef has no desire to reattempt it, saying, “No!!! She’s done and dusted.”
Her response didn’t sit well with many netizens, who pointed out that Mercy Eke herself attempted to win Big Brother Naija again by participating in the All Stars show.
One user commented, “But you went to BBN the second time. Why didn’t you say ‘done and dusted’ when it was your turn? She’s even responding for herself.”
Another user remarked, “Well, you said this, but you went back to BBN after winning. You didn’t say ‘done and dusted.'”
It was also noted that Mercy Eke had returned to the Big Brother Naija show for a second season.
In the background, it was reported that Hilda Baci lost her Guinness World Record for the longest time spent cooking while standing. The new record holder, Alan Fisher from Ireland, completed a remarkable cooking marathon of 119 hours and 57 minutes in Japan.
Following this news, Hilda updated her social media accounts to reflect her status. She mentioned that she remains a record holder in spirit and history but chose to celebrate her predecessor, Chef Alan Fisher, for his achievement and spirit of competition. She explained that Chef Lata, the first record holder, had respectfully acknowledged her as the winner and made adjustments to her bio, which inspired her to do the same.
Hilda emphasized the significance of achieving such a record and expressed admiration for Chef Alan.
It’s worth recalling that in June, Hilda achieved a 100-hour record time of marathon cooking, surpassing the previous record holder, Chef Lata Tondon, who cooked for 87 hours and 45 minutes. However, due to concerns about her resting hours, Hilda’s record time was adjusted to 93 hours and 11 minutes, despite her original 100-hour feat.
