Man City’s Ortega Earns First Germany Call-Up for Nations League

-

Manchester City’s Stefan Ortega has received his inaugural call-up to the Germany national team for the Nations League, filling in as Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen recovers from a knee injury. Coach Julian Nagelsmann announced Ortega’s inclusion alongside goalkeepers Alexander Nübel of Stuttgart and Oliver Baumann of Hoffenheim.

Germany, already qualified for the Nations League quarter-finals, will host Bosnia and Herzegovina on November 16 in Freiburg before facing Hungary in Budapest three days later. Borussia Dortmund midfielders Julian Brandt and Felix Nmecha also make their returns to the squad after standout performances.

Nagelsmann highlighted the squad’s strength despite key injuries affecting players like Leroy Sané and Niclas Füllkrug. Additionally, Bayern Munich loanee Paul Wanner declined the call-up to continue with the under-21s, leaving open his international allegiance between Germany and Austria.
