In 2023, Hon. Dickson Tarkighir, representing the Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency in Benue State, has issued a stern warning of a potential N10 billion lawsuit against Venita Akpofure and the organizers of the reality show for alleged defamation of the Tiv Nation.
Venita faced significant backlash following her statement on the reality show, where she remarked that “Tiv men give their wives to visitors for entertainment purposes.”
This statement triggered outrage among the Tiv community in Nigeria’s North Central region, with many demanding legal action against her.
In response, Hon. Tarkighir has proposed legal action against Venita and the Big Brother Naija brand, holding them responsible for providing her with a substantial platform to defame the Tiv tribe.
Taking to his Facebook page, he stated: “#Venita Akpofure – A 10BN defamation suit should be filed against her, the Big Brother brand, and its promoters. They offered her the extensive platform to defame an entire tribe and are equally accountable for not distancing themselves from her.”
