Kylian Mbappe Suffers Thigh Injury Ahead of Atletico Derby

-

Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe has sustained a thigh injury just days before the highly anticipated La Liga derby against Atletico Madrid. The club confirmed the injury on Wednesday.

Mbappe was substituted during Tuesday’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Deportivo Alaves after experiencing discomfort. Initial reports from Spanish media suggest he could be sidelined for approximately three weeks.

“Following tests carried out today by Real Madrid’s medical services on our player Kylian Mbappe, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg,” the club stated.

The French superstar scored a stunning goal in the match against Alaves, bringing his total to five goals in seven league appearances this season. After the game, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti noted, “He’s fine, he’s fine, a little overloaded; he asked me for the change to avoid problems.”

With Mbappe’s absence, Real Madrid will face Atletico at the Metropolitano Stadium on Sunday, trailing leaders Barcelona by just one point. Additionally, Mbappe is expected to miss the upcoming Champions League clash against Lille and could also be unavailable for France’s Nations League matches against Israel and Belgium next month.

Having joined Real Madrid this summer after leaving Paris Saint-Germain, Mbappe has begun to find his rhythm, netting seven goals in nine appearances across all competitions, including a goal in the UEFA Super Cup victory over Atalanta in August and on his Champions League debut.
