Former Real Madrid Star Raphael Varane Retires from Football at 31

-

Raphael Varane, a World Cup-winning defender from France, announced his retirement from professional football on Tuesday at the age of 31.

Varane, who previously played for Real Madrid and Manchester United, joined Italian club Como for the current season. However, he was omitted from their Serie A squad after sustaining a knee injury in August.

In a social media statement, Varane expressed, “A new life begins off the pitch.” He confirmed that he will continue to be involved with Como, albeit in a non-playing capacity. “Just without using my boots and shin pads. Something I am looking forward to sharing more about soon,” added the four-time Champions League winner.

Varane’s decision to retire marks the end of a notable career, during which he gained recognition as one of the top defenders in the sport.
