Manchester United defender Jonny Evans has revealed the key advice provided by club legend Ruud van Nistelrooy to the Red Devils players this season. According to Evans, Nistelrooy encouraged the team to enjoy the game and focus on their performance, blocking out external pressures.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Evans noted that the weight of expectations to win every match often creates pressure for the players. “Ruud spoke the other day about the fact that it’s a game and getting back to when you’re a kid playing football and competing,” he said.
He emphasized the importance of returning to that carefree mindset, stating, “I think that’s where everyone wants to reach—a place where you’re not affected by outside noise and can just go out and perform to your best every week.”
Evans added, “Every footballer strives for that every single weekend—playing with enjoyment and a smile on your face. Of course, we have expectations to win matches, and it’s always more enjoyable when we do.”
