The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured the public of its preparedness to conduct a credible governorship election in Ondo State on November 16, 2024.
During a visit to various INEC Local Government Area offices in the state on Tuesday, INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, confirmed that non-sensitive materials had already been distributed to all local government offices. Yakubu expressed satisfaction with the level of preparation, highlighting that sensitive materials would arrive by Tuesday of the following week.
The INEC chairman outlined the upcoming schedule, noting that on Wednesday, election materials would undergo an inspection by political parties, candidates, observers, media, and security agencies. By Thursday, these materials would be distributed to the local government areas, followed by inspections at that level, before the final movement to wards on Friday.
Yakubu also confirmed that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices were fully charged and configured, ready for deployment alongside other materials. Additionally, life jackets and emergency measures were in place for INEC officials and security personnel working in riverine areas, to ensure both material safety and personnel security.
With these measures, Yakubu reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, and safe election in Ondo State.
