Imo Govt Debunks Free Transport Claims for Lagos Residents

-

The Imo State Government has refuted circulating claims that it is providing free transportation for Imo indigenes residing in Lagos to travel home for the festive season.

Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the Governor, Oguwike Nwachukwu, clarified that no such initiative exists and urged the public to disregard the false information.

In a statement, Nwachukwu described the claims as a criminal attempt to exploit unsuspecting citizens, noting that fraudsters fabricated the announcement and included fake contact numbers to defraud potential travelers.

“These individuals aim to deceive Imo indigenes under the guise of free transportation to Owerri, Okigwe, and Orlu,” the statement read. “The supposed travel dates of December 24, 2024, and January 4, 2025, are part of this fraudulent scheme.”

The public was cautioned against contacting the numbers provided in the fake message, as doing so could result in financial loss.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Office of the Chief Press Secretary has not issued any statement regarding free transportation. Imo citizens should disregard this deceptive claim entirely,” Nwachukwu emphasized.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
