Nigeria’s oil-producing host communities have called on President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to strengthen pipeline security in the Niger Delta to meet the country’s revenue target of N36.36 trillion, as outlined in the 2025 budget proposal.
Emmanuel Pathfinder, National President of HOSTCONYCN, made the appeal at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, following President Tinubu’s presentation of the N49.7 trillion budget to the National Assembly earlier in the week.
The budget’s key assumptions include a revenue target of N36.36 trillion, a reduction in inflation to 15.75%, an exchange rate of N1,500 per dollar, oil production at 2.06 million barrels per day (mbpd), and a budget deficit of N13.39 trillion.
Pathfinder emphasized that enhancing pipeline surveillance would be critical to increasing Nigeria’s oil production, which is expected to rise from 1.8 million barrels per day to the targeted 2.06 million barrels per day in 2025. He expressed confidence that with proper security measures in place, Nigeria’s oil production could exceed 2.5 million barrels daily by early 2025, ensuring economic stability and supporting the ambitious revenue target.
