The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has sharply criticized Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf’s accusation that he orchestrated a break-in at the state high court to steal sensitive documents related to his corruption trial. Ganduje described the allegation as absurd and a reflection of the governor’s inability to manage the state’s security and judicial affairs.
Yusuf’s administration had filed multiple corruption charges against Ganduje, including one involving his wife, Hafsat, and son, Umar, over alleged bribery amounting to $413,000 and ₦1.38 billion. Following a recent break-in at the Kano State High Court during anti-hunger protests, Yusuf claimed that the intruders were on a mission to steal court documents related to Ganduje’s cases.
Ganduje responded by questioning the credibility of Yusuf’s claims, pointing out that if the documents were truly stolen, copies should still exist with the government’s legal team. He labeled the allegations as a diversionary tactic by Yusuf’s administration to shift focus away from its failings in handling the state’s security and legal issues.
Ganduje’s aide, Edwin Olofu, further dismissed the claims as baseless, stating that it was implausible for protesters to selectively steal specific court documents in this digital age. He criticized the Yusuf administration for resorting to what he described as “pedestrian propaganda” and urged Kano residents to remain calm as investigations proceed.
