A UK court has handed life sentences to Urfan Sharif, 43, and Beinash Batool, 30, for the brutal murder of 10-year-old Sara Sharif. The sentencing was delivered on Tuesday at London’s Old Bailey court, with Sharif required to serve a minimum of 40 years and Batool at least 33 years before becoming eligible for parole.
Sara Sharif’s body was found in Woking, Surrey, in August 2023, bearing evidence of sustained abuse. Prosecutors detailed the shocking injuries she endured, including bruises, burns, broken bones, and bite marks. They described the ordeal as a “despicable campaign of abuse.”
The case provoked widespread outrage in the UK and Pakistan, particularly after Sharif and Batool fled to Pakistan following Sara’s death. Their extradition in September 2024 ensured they faced justice for their actions.
During sentencing, the judge condemned the pair’s behavior as “unimaginably cruel,” adding that Sara had been “betrayed by those who should have protected her most.”
