Taiwo Oyebanjo, the former wife of Dotun Kayode, has been held in contempt by the court due to her refusal to grant Dotun access to their children.
Taiwo Oyebanjo, who initiated divorce proceedings in Abuja, has been found guilty of contempt of court and may be subject to imprisonment.
In a high court in Dukpa, Abuja, Taiwo Oyebanjo was determined to have violated the court’s ruling regarding the joint custody of their children, which was granted in suit No. GWD/PET/25/21. This arrangement was initially consented to by both Dotun and Taiwo following Dotun’s request in April 2022.
Despite the court’s ruling, Taiwo has persistently denied her estranged spouse access to their children since December 2022, without providing any reason. Consequently, Dotun took legal action, resulting in a recent and acrimonious social media dispute between the two parties.
The court deemed Taiwo’s refusal to grant Dotun Kayode access to and custody of the children in December 2022 as a violation of the court’s directive, and she was consequently found guilty. As part of the ruling, the court has ordered Taiwo to pay a fine of N200,000 within 30 days or face potential imprisonment until the fine is settled.
Reports suggest there was nearly a small incident when Dotun’s ex-wife’s legal representatives attempted to withdraw their representation following the court’s decision. However, the trial has been rescheduled for December 11th.
