CITN Applauds Sanwo-Olu for Launching Lagos State Revenue Portal

-

The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) has praised Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the introduction of the Lagos State Revenue Portal (LRP). CITN lauded the initiative as a significant step towards enhancing transparency and accountability in the management of state revenues.

In a statement released by CITN President and Chairman of the Council, Mr. Samuel Agbeluyi, the Institute emphasized that the LRP is crucial for fostering confidence in the fiscal management practices of the Lagos State Government. By improving transparency in the handling of internally generated revenues, the portal is expected to strengthen public trust in the government’s financial management capabilities.

The new portal is designed to streamline the State’s revenue administration process through advanced technology. By consolidating various tax and regulatory payments onto a single platform, the LRP is poised to enhance compliance, reduce the administrative burden on taxpayers, and ultimately increase revenue collections for the State.

Mr. Agbeluyi noted, “In many states, taxpayers and business owners face multiple bills from various agencies, which complicates compliance and raises the cost of doing business. This fragmentation often leads to revenue losses and lower collection rates. The LRP addresses this issue by centralizing all these bills into one accessible platform, simplifying the payment process for both taxpayers and the government.”

CITN encouraged other states to follow Lagos State’s example and adopt similar initiatives to improve revenue management. The Institute believes that the LRP will not only advance revenue reporting and accounting but also promote fiscal responsibility and enhance the delivery of democratic dividends to the public.

The Institute also highlighted that this development aligns with global best practices in revenue collection, facilitates easier business operations, and supports strategic decision-making through effective revenue monitoring.

“We urge governments at all levels to continue evolving strategies that build public trust and confidence in their financial activities,” the statement concluded.
