Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has praised Aliko Dangote, founder of the Dangote Group, for his perseverance and “can-do spirit” following the successful launch of the Dangote Refinery.
In his congratulatory message, Atiku lauded Dangote’s achievement, emphasizing that the industrialist has showcased what corporate Nigeria is capable of in efforts to revive and strengthen the nation’s economy. This comes after Dangote announced that his refinery is now ready to commence the production of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol.
Atiku took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express his admiration for Dangote’s contribution to the nation. He stated, “Let me congratulate and appreciate the efforts of Alhaji Aliko Dangote, @AlikoDangote, as the Dangote Refinery begins production of PMS. It demonstrates his tenacity and ‘can do’ spirit and his belief in his fatherland.”
Atiku further highlighted that this accomplishment is not only a testament to Dangote’s business acumen but also a clear indication of the potential of corporate Nigeria to drive economic recovery. He emphasized his own vision for a robust private sector presence in the Nigerian economy, whether operating independently or in partnership with the state.
“This remarkable accomplishment is beyond a demonstration of the business acumen of just one man,” Atiku continued. “It is also a manifestation of what corporate Nigeria can do to recover the Nigerian economy and make it strong, dynamic, and resilient. This resonates with my dream of having an enlarged private sector presence in the Nigerian economy. I am an unrepentant advocate for a strong and visible participation of the private sector in strategic sectors of the economy, either alone or in partnership with the state.”
The Dangote Refinery, which is set to play a significant role in Nigeria’s fuel production, has been eagerly anticipated as a major step towards reducing the nation’s dependence on imported fuel.
