Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has announced that his administration has paid over ₦47 billion in gratuities to retirees since taking office in November 2022. This surpasses the combined ₦34.4 billion paid by his predecessors, Rauf Aregbesola and Adegboyega Oyetola, over a 12-year period.
Speaking in Osogbo during the presentation of bond certificates worth ₦1.9 billion to contributory pensioners from state and local government services, Adeleke emphasized his administration’s commitment to retirees’ welfare.
He highlighted that in less than two years, his government has achieved what previous administrations could not accomplish over more than a decade.
Adeleke detailed the gratuity payments under past administrations, stating, “Former Governor Aregbesola paid ₦17.15 billion as of 2018, and former Governor Oyetola paid ₦17.25 billion as of 2022, totaling ₦34.4 billion over 12 years. My administration has paid ₦22.67 billion for state pensions and ₦25 billion for local government pensions, bringing our total to over ₦47 billion within just two years.”
The governor reaffirmed his dedication to pension reforms, pledging to address personal grievances and improve the pension administration system.
“The well-being of our senior citizens remains a priority. We are committed to ensuring that pensioners are treated with the dignity and timeliness they deserve,” he added.
Adeleke’s announcement underscores his administration’s focus on social justice and improved welfare for retirees in Osun State.
