The Abia State Government has initiated survey activities for the proposed Abia International Airport in Nsulu, assuring land donors that they will be compensated in accordance with the Land Use Act.
Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Mr. Chaka Chukwumerije, emphasized that proper land enumeration will be conducted, and compensations paid to those affected by the project. This statement follows a weekend protest by some indigenes of the donor communities.
To address concerns, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Caleb Ajagba, and Special Assistant on Lands and Housing, Okorougo Aji, held extensive discussions with representatives of the seven donor communities.
Chukwumerije revealed that a joint survey between the Office of the Surveyor General and representatives from Nsulu, including youth leaders, was agreed upon.
“At the commencement of the survey on Saturday, November 30, 2024, some members of Umunna Nsulu protested not being carried along. The Chief of Staff quickly addressed them, assuring that everyone will be appropriately engaged,” the Commissioner stated.
This move reflects the government’s commitment to addressing local concerns while progressing with the airport project.
