Nasarawa Government to Begin N70,500 Minimum Wage Payments This December

-

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, announced that the state government will begin paying the new national minimum wage of N70,500 starting this December 2024, despite the ongoing industrial action in the state.

The Governor made the announcement during the commissioning of the newly remodeled office of the Deputy Governor in Lafia, the state capital. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to addressing the issue of consequential adjustments arising from the new wage structure.

Governor Sule acknowledged that previous administrations had approved higher percentages, but emphasized that his government is committed to a fair and sustainable adjustment, given the state’s limited resources in comparison to its regional peers.

The Governor also appealed to labour unions to suspend their strike and return to work, encouraging them to engage in further negotiations to reach a mutually beneficial resolution. He emphasized the importance of fostering a harmonious relationship with organized labour for industrial peace and progress in the state.
