The Kwara State Government has demoted Hajia Fatimoh Hamzat Nike, a teacher at Government Day Junior Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin, over allegations of maltreating a youth corps member.
According to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, and the Executive Chairman of the State Teaching Service Commission, Mallam Bello Tauheed Abubakar, Hajia Nike was found guilty of multiple offenses. These include fighting on duty, using foul language, insubordination, and disrespect for the national identity symbolized by the corps member’s uniform.
The disciplinary action involves a demotion by two grade levels, a transfer to another school, and mandatory counseling sessions.
The government emphasized its zero-tolerance policy for such misconduct, reaffirming its commitment to upholding discipline and ethical standards in schools.
“The government deeply regrets the teacher’s actions, which do not reflect the values of Kwara State. We assure the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) that this behavior will not recur,” the statement read.
Teachers in the state have been urged to adhere strictly to professional ethics and maintain law-abiding conduct in their duties. The government pledged to continue prioritizing training on teaching ethics and service protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.
