The Oyo State government is set to launch a new initiative aimed at instilling positive values in youths attending state-owned tertiary institutions. The Oyo Mobilisation Agency for Socio-Economic Development (OYMASED) will spearhead this reorientation effort.
Dr. Morohunkola Thomas, Director-General of OYMASED, announced the initiative during a visit to the Polytechnic Ibadan on Thursday, where he met with the institution’s Rector, Dr. Taiwo Lasisi.
Dr. Thomas outlined the agency’s mission, emphasizing the importance of instilling core values in students, who represent the future leaders of the state. He expressed concern that many students are increasingly seeking quick success rather than embracing hard work and positive values. He noted that issues such as cultism, thuggery, bullying, substance abuse, and indecent dressing are on the rise and must be actively addressed.
“Bullying, thuggery, indecent dressing, illicit drug use, and other vices are becoming more prevalent. Many youths are pursuing rapid wealth instead of valuing tolerance, perseverance, and honesty,” Dr. Thomas said.
He praised the Polytechnic Ibadan for its commitment to quality service and stressed the need for a collective effort to ensure that graduates make positive contributions to society.
Rector Dr. Lasisi responded by commending Governor Seyi Makinde for establishing the agency at this critical time. He assured Dr. Thomas and OYMASED of the institution’s full support in advancing this initiative.
