Army Arrests Suspected Killer of FUNAAB Student Kidnapped in Lagos

-

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of Adeleye Ayomide, the prime suspect in the kidnapping and murder of Idowu Christiana, a 300-level student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State. Christiana was abducted along the Ikorodu-Yaba Road in Lagos on August 19, 2024.

Initially, her abductors demanded a ransom of ₦3 million, later settling for ₦350,000 after negotiations. Despite the payment, they did not release her. The suspect, Ayomide, was arrested by the 174 Battalion of the Nigerian Army and handed over to the Lagos State Police Command for further investigation.

Lt-Col. Olabisi Ayeni, spokesperson for the 81 Division Nigerian Army, confirmed the arrest, and Lagos State Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, announced the handover via his X (formerly Twitter) handle. Ayomide is said to have confessed to killing and burying Christiana.

The tragic incident has sparked an outcry on social media, with the hashtag #JusticeForChristiana trending. Social media users, including those close to the victim, are calling for justice for Christiana, demanding that the suspect face the full consequences of his actions.

The investigation is ongoing, with evidence tying Ayomide to the crime, including the recovery of Christiana’s phone and financial records linking him to the ransom payment.
