Identical twins originate from a single fertilized egg, resulting in siblings who share the same sex and identical DNA.
Fraternal twins, on the other hand, are the product of two separate eggs fertilized by two distinct sperm cells. They can have different sexes, dissimilar DNA, and varying appearances.
Here are five ways to increase your chances of having twins:
1. Incorporate Dairy Products into Your Diet
Consuming dairy products can elevate the odds of having twin pregnancies, as these products contain growth hormones released by cows in their milk. These dairy foods can enhance the production of insulin-like growth factors (IGF) in women, promoting the simultaneous release of multiple eggs from the ovaries, increasing the likelihood of twin fertilization.
2. Partner with a Twins-Prone Family
Choosing a partner with a family history of twins can significantly increase your chances of having twins. If both you and your partner have a familial background of twins, the probability of giving birth to twins is even higher.
3. Maintain a Higher Body Mass Index (BMI)
Research indicates that individuals with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher are more likely to have twins. Obesity can increase the probability of twin pregnancies due to elevated levels of estrogen, a female sex hormone, and the ovaries’ increased stimulation associated with excess body fat.
