William Troost-Ekong has stated that Ahmed Musa is still the captain of the Super Eagles. This announcement comes despite Musa not being called up for Nigeria since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.
Currently playing for the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) club Kano Pillars, the 31-year-old forward recently made headlines by scoring a brace in Pillars’ 2-0 victory over Sunshine Stars. Musa has clarified that he has not retired from international football.
Troost-Ekong emphasized Musa’s importance to the team during a media event in Ikot Ekpene, saying, “We’re happy he’s back. He’s still our captain and he’s welcome back any time. He’s our most capped player, a good role model, and a good leader. I am happy to deputise for him.”
